Hello dear paid subscribers! This Sunday I’d like to tell you a story.
I was told this story while I was on the island of Lombok in Indonesia back in November. It forms part of the folklore of the Sasak - the indigenous people of the island (see my piece The survival of pre-Islamic religion in Indonesia). Their culture is still deeply steeped in myth, folk tradition and oral storytelling.
